What is a marketing ecosystem and why should every small business have one?

I know that not every business has the capacity for a full, bespoke 12 month marketing strategy and content plan, researched and built by an expert marketer.

But what a lot of business owners miss, is the repurposing of your content. The repetition of an idea you have across multiple channels. Don’t sit scratching your head after posting something on social media, because when you have your marketing ecosytem set, you already know the next step.

A marketing ecosystem doesn’t need to be super complex either. Let me give you an example:

Step 1: the idea - that links to your ideal client, the problem they have that you help with. That links back to your business objective. Its the core idea, that shows your brilliant business in all its glory.

Step 2: Can you pitch to a journalist for a PR piece? If your idea is timely or relevant, definitely pitch it to a journalist.

Step 3: Long form content. If you love writing, add a blog post to your website, or your substack./ If you love video, jump onto Youtube. If podcasting is your thing, get on and record a new episode (with video if you can). Add a juicy call to action within your piece. Sign up to my email list (see step 3.5 below), or book a discovery call. What next step would you love the reader/ watcher/ listener to take? Then ask them to do that.

Step 3.5 - is there a free resource you can create alongside your long form content, it could be a form, a template, a worksheet, a VIP podcast episode or masterclass. Build a landing page that links to your freebie, and add a welcome automation to share it.

Step 4: Share the long form content (and freebie, if you created one) with your VIP email community. Tell them why you think they would find it interesting or useful. Don’t forget to include a solid CTA.

Step 5: Go to networking events and talk about your topic. Ask leaders of the events you love if you can take a speaker position. Use QR codes to link back to your free resource via your email sign up form.

Step 6: Pitch to sideways podcasts - podcasts who have a similar ideal client to you. Share why you think your topic would be interesting or useful to their ideal audience.

Step 7: Use clips of your long form content across social media. Chop podcasts into sound bites, snip YT video into reels. Make carousels from the thoughts you’ve shared in your blog. Then ask your audience to check out the original piece of content. Use DM automation to share links.

Step 8 - Pinterest: the traffic driving machine that everyone forgets about. Pinterest is an excellent way of bringing interested people into your world. Yes, there are a few businesses who do better on Pinterest, (graphic design, anything weddings, food, creative, gifting, photography, interior design or architecture), but Pinterest is really fab for loads of businesses AND once you have set your Pinterest content you can forget about it. Anyone in the future who searches for the terms you have used, will be served your content. Large businesses are ranked equally to smaller businesses so it really does level the playing field.

As you can see above - you’re using one idea, that links back to your business objectives in several ways.

Repetition is an excellent marketing tool, so saying the same thing across multiple channels in different ways is always BRILLIANT idea.

If you would like some 1-1 bespoke support, for making your marketing easier, I’d love to help.
