Newsletters for creative businesses
A couple of months ago I submitted an entry for the UK Small Business Awards. As part of the submission I had to collate testimonials, and honestly, I was pretty overwhelmed by the wonderful words that my clients shared with me.
And I also noticed a common thread.
Creative business owners, feeling stuck. That tech was not their forté, that they had struggled to get set up with newsletters. They didnt really didn’t know how to bring them into what they’re already doing
And that working with me really helped them.
Although I have almost 25 years (gulp) of experience working in marketing, you’ll rarely hear me using marketing shpeil.
I pride myself on meeting business owners where they are with kindness. No such thing as a silly question.
I’m not here to overwhelm them with acronyms, bamboozle them with marketing talk. I break things down into small, actionable steps - giving the right level of support as needed.
I recently worked with a brilliantly talented artist specialising in still-life oil paintings. She was already set up with Mailchimp, but wasn't seeing results from her email newsletters. She has an engaged instagram communty of 10k followers, but wanted to back up the hard work on the platform and create an algorithm-free, direct line to them.
So we booked in a 90 minute - Do it Together session and we covered a lot.
We built out a landing page with segmentation, and I explained how to use it on Instagram, but also at in person events.
We crafted an outline master template, bringing in brand colours, headers, blocks to cover exhibitions, events, workshops and new peices as well as a much more personable sign off.
Penny’s newsletters had a brilliant open rate - showing that her audience wanted to hear from her. But she didn’t realise that she could make her images clickable - so missing out on so much website traffic and sales. We added blocks with CTA buttons and links to all images (linking through to her beautiful one-off art pieces on her site) Small tweaks that meant her click rate went from 5% to 25% in her first campaign after our session.
“The session I had with Barbara was so useful as I’m not naturally a very tech savvy person.
Barbara talked me through creating a sign-up page and a newsletter template that is easy to use and shared tips that will make the most of the emails I’m sending.”
I really am so passionate that with just a little bit of support, from the right expert, anyone can get started and see results from newsletters
